Burberry’s Junior Stylist – Hetty Appleton-Miles

  • Tell us a bit about yourself:

My name is Hetty Appleton-Miles, I am 21 and I am living and working in London. I moved to London about 3 years ago to follow my dream of working in the fashion industry. I worked for 6 months intensively internship at the top publications houses to then work as a full time styling assistant at Net-A-Porter. I then free-lanced for about 6 months and within that time worked with vogue Poland, Elle U.K., ASOS, matches, Selfridges, and Burberry and from there landed my current full-time role as Junior stylist at Burberry.

  • Did an interest in fashion come naturally to you? Or did you pursue it?

Fashion has always come naturally to me. All the pictures of me as a young kid were full of crazy outfits, it was very clear I was meant to work in fashion. It has always been my thing and a thing that made me feel my most comfortable. I like to say, there is a lot of things in life that you can’t control but you can always control your outfit and what you decide to wear.

  • Do you see being a stylist as your ideal career?

I love being a stylist but it is only the start of my career so who knows where life will take me. I would also really love to get into buying at some point but who knows. I trust that life will lead me in the right direction.

  • Favourite Brand?

I currently am loving Bottega Venetta and Jil Sander. They are really having a bit of a moment in the industry. Oh and of course Burberry.

  • Tell us about your time at Burberry:

I have been at Burberry for almost a year now and boy has it gone quickly. It has been really exciting growing and learning in such an iconic fashion house and during such a revolutionary time for the brand.

  • How do you believe social media plays a positive role in the fashion industry?

I use social media as a kind of outlet to showcase my styling and own personal style. I think it is really important in the fashion industry especially, to have an online presence. It can be such a useful tool and can bring about jobs and work you would have maybe never gotten had it not been there.

  • If you were stuck on a desert island, what outfit could you not live without?

Well I imagine a desert island would be rather hot but jeans, boots, white shirt and leather jacket.
